Increasing numbers of parents are discovering that their children are being groomed and lured into online sexual situations from apps like Fortnite, Discord, and Snapchat. Reports of online child sex abuse have increased by 90 percent since the start of the pandemic.
Connecticut is modernizing their stalking laws to include electronic and online forms of harassment. Second-Degree Stalking Laws in Connecticut now include: electronic release of personal identifiable information without consent (photo or video) include other electronic forms of communication
A teenage girl received online harassment and death threats after posting videos criticizing Islam on Instagram and TikTok. The Associated Press says, “The trial focuses on responses to the teenager’s TikTok video in November. One of the defendants threatened to turn her into another Samuel Paty, a teacher who was beheaded outside Paris in October after showing his class caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad.” Thirteen people are on trial facing prison time and fines if convicted.
Carson was bullied on LMK and Yolo – both apps are owned by Snapchat. The suicide victim’s parents stated, “We found out that, in the last days of Carson’s life, he was desperately reaching out to friends to learn who was harassing him and searching for Yolo hacks to find a way to identify his tormentors. He never did, and, in the end, it was more than a 16-year-old who was seeking real friendship and connection could handle.”
